Sound healing or a sound bath is offered through using crystal bowls and different instruments to work with our own vibrational energies.  Studies have shown the benefits of therapeutic effects of sound and vibrations on our health.  Honestly, when receiving a sound bath, it feels just like that, sound enveloping me and surrounding me and bathing me in healing energy and I get to nap for a time whilst receiving it.  (Which is actually my body dropping into either a theta or delta state).

If we get to the science speak, studies have shown how sound healing reduces stress, anxiety, pain, and improves emotional well-being. It can also lower cortisol levels and induce deep relaxation. It can also activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting rest and digestion. Vibrational frequencies have been shown to enhance immune function. Neuroscientific studies link sound to changes in neurotransmitter release (e.g., serotonin). Evidence supports sound’s role in pain management and emotional regulation.

So, how does sound healing actually work?  The human body is 70% water—an excellent conductor for sound. Sound penetrates deep into tissues, affecting cells and organs. Singing bowls can shift the brain from beta (alert) to alpha (relaxed), theta (meditative), or delta (deep sleep). It works with the vagus nerve system and stimulates certain frequencies to calm the nervous system and reduce stress.

The vibrations influence physical, emotional and energetic states.  The crystal bowls work through how many vibrations or sound waves occur per second, which are measured in hertz.  Higher frequencies produce high pitched sounds, whilst lower frequencies create deep tones.  The bowls use specific frequencies and are calibrated as such in order to balance the body’s energy.  An example, 432 Hz is known for calming, harmonious effects.  528 Hz, transformation and DNA repair.  The different frequencies resonate with different energy centres (chakras), so frequency and intention equals healing.

When the bowls are played, whether being struck or played, the sound wave matches an objects natural frequency which amplifies and sustains the vibration.  Thus in resonance, it can restore balance by literally vibrating the cells and tissues back to their natural state.

Sound healing is safe for most people to use.  However, if pregnant (especially in the first trimester), it can interfere with the amniotic fluid and if your pregnancy is high risk, consulting with your medical practitioner first is recommended.  If you have any metal plates or a pace maker, sound healing should be avoided as well.
